The Whiddon Group is a not for profit organisation and have been providing aged care, independent living and community care services to NSW clients for over 6 decades.
In 1923, when social welfare was practically non-existent, a small group of Freemasons formed The Aged and Distressed Brethren’s Comfort Fund Committee, visiting sick and elderly Freemasons and their wives.
The Committee was founded by Bro Herbert Cracknell, W Bro Fred Greening and W Bro Harold Wilkens and they pursued their aim, virtually as a private group, providing funds and facilities for their less fortunate Brethren. Other Brethren joined the Committee over time and the plan was formed to construct facilities for aged Masons and their wives.
In 1945 when M.W. Bro. Frank Whiddon became Grand Master, he gave the Committee permission to receive donations from Lodges, which enabled the provisions of comforts and ultimately, accommodation for less fortunate Masons.
In 1947 The Frank Whiddon Masonic Homes of New South Wales (incorporating the Aged and Distressed Brethren’s Comfort Fund), named in appreciation of the unfailing support of the Grand Master was formed and approved as an official Masonic Charity.
This charitable organisation dedicated to the care and accommodation of Aged and Disabled Persons became a public company, limited by guarantee on 22 April 1998 and on 13 November 2007 the trading name of The Frank Whiddon Masonic Homes of New South Wales was changed to The Whiddon Group.
The Whiddon Group currently operates 24 aged care facilities through out New South Wales providing choices and opportunities of life enrichment for clients through innovative care services.
